Pinto’s Message of Inspiration

Speaking after the ceremony, Pinto expressed gratitude to God and thanked the Energy Commission for the opportunity and recognition. She also used the moment to encourage young women to venture into electrical wiring, a field traditionally dominated by men.

“What men can do, women can do and even better,” she said, urging young women to break barriers and explore the rewarding career path of electrical wiring.

Ceremony Theme and Key Messages

The event was held under the theme:
“Empowering Certified Practitioners; Securing L.I. 2008 Through Professional Authority.”

In a speech delivered on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Adolf Nii Ashong, Manager of Electricity Regulation at the Energy Commission, emphasized that the certification program aims not just at passing exams but at empowering professionals with skills, tools, and entrepreneurial opportunities.

He highlighted the value of certified electricians, noting that their credentials provide assurance to property owners of safe, high-quality installations.

Delivering the keynote address, Thomas Okyere, District Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Manso Nkwanta, reminded graduates of their vital role in national development:

“You are not just artisans or electricians. You are problem-solvers, innovators, and custodians of safety. Your work will impact countless lives and must be carried out with professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to excellence.”

He also reiterated the importance of Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2008, which mandates that all electrical wiring installations comply with Ghana’s national standards. Certified professionals, he said, now bear the responsibility of ensuring legal and safe electrical work across the country.

Impact of the Certification Initiative

Fred Adjei Brobbey, Senior Officer for Electricity and Natural Gas at the Energy Commission, highlighted the program’s long-term impact. Since its inception, Ghana now boasts over 18,000 certified Electrical Wiring Professionals and Inspectors.

He noted that this initiative has contributed to a significant reduction in electrical wiring-related fire outbreaks across the country.
